An accidental mission we’ve had here in KL is to know all the best speakeasys in town… and there are a lot of them.
The first one we went to was PS 150, hidden behind a toy store in Chinatown. Our initial visit (and there have been several since) was at the end of a walking tour our group did.
Since we were a bunch of strangers who just signed up to travel the world together for a year, our local guru thought we should play some ice-breaker drinking games… I’ll leave it at that.
With our interest in KL speakeasy culture piqued, Jen found many more for us to try on her birthday. One of the most festive was Skullduggery. A beautiful space, gorgeous bar. And we somehow walked in to an especially festive night, as the bar manager had just won some award… he invited us all to celebrate with him. And, I know you’re surprised, we did.
Not only were the bartenders mixing up incredible drinks (my tequila-based cocktail had pear and squid ink!), but the DJ was spinning amazing Cali jams. Yes, indeed, there was a good run of us singing along to 50 Cent.
Several times during our fantastic stay at Skullduggery I looked around and thought, where the hell am I? I could be in New York, Los Angeles, London… nope, it was surprising KL.
